If you helped beta test the v1.0 release of Pingle, you can now download the first v1.1 beta release of Pingle here: if you’re on Windows, and for Mac users.
The most significant changes were to the image attachment features, which now provide significantly greater control and picture quality. If you’re a frequent EDGE user, you should be able to minimize the time it takes to upload pictures, and get feedback on progress.
Detailed Release Notes are below.
Version: 1.1 beta 1 (build 172)
Releases: 2009-04-24
* Added a posting progress bar. This is useful to watch the progress for large uploads,
but due to issues with the Apple SDK, will be very inaccurate for post sizes
less than 128KB. Also, the estimated time is a SWAG at best and will depend on
highly unpredictable network performance factors.
* Fix 404 page when doing mobile key provisioning, failure to auto-grab key, formatting.
(adjusting to latest Ping.FM version)
* Make sure initial load isn’t slowed by background refresh…delay analytics and location
functions until 1 second after launch.
Composition / UI
* Hide status bar and toolbar on landscape view for more post viewing space
* Double-tap in text editor will toggle top toolbar in landscape view
* Don’t allow completely blank posts
* Show character counter in more garish red when over allowed post size
* Move posting method icons underneath keyboard in portrait mode — can still
see in method select view
Image uploads
* Image compression settings via Settings.app in v1.05 were all or nothing;
now much more fine-grained.
* Keep attached images with draft posts across app restarts
* Status for camera icon (show paperclip when an image is attached)
* Control over image resolution and quality at posting time
* Estimated posting size and upload time
* Save to photo album function in post screen
* When saving to photo album, save a full-quality, non-shrunken image
Stability
* If crash when loading saved app state, start w/fresh state on next load
* Fixed Crash in history viewer when aborting a browser load
* integrate Plausible Labs Crash reporter
* clear cache on version change
