Second Beta of 1.1 Available to Testers
Posted by robert in Uncategorized on April 25th, 2009
If you helped beta test the v1.0 release of Pingle, you can now download the second v1.1 beta release of Pingle, available here: if you’re on Windows, and for Mac users.
This release differs from the previous beta primarily in solving some iPhone OS 3.0 related UI issues.
If you are beta testing, follow on Twitter, which is where most beta activity will take place.
Pingle v1.1 beta1 Available to Testers
If you helped beta test the v1.0 release of Pingle, you can now download the first v1.1 beta release of Pingle here: if you’re on Windows, and for Mac users.
The most significant changes were to the image attachment features, which now provide significantly greater control and picture quality. If you’re a frequent EDGE user, you should be able to minimize the time it takes to upload pictures, and get feedback on progress.
Detailed Release Notes are below.
Pingle Available on the App Store!
Check it out.
Note that I will be sending out promo codes to the first 25 eligible people who signed up as beta testers in the next few days.
Updated Build of 1.04(b)
I just added a few new beta users to the provisioning list; no code changes versus 1.04.
With that I am closing the Pingle 1.0 beta to new users.
You can download it here:

While we wait for the wheels of the App Store to grind exceedingly fine, here’s a #protip: you can start a new post inside Pingle containing the URL of the page you’re reading in MobileSafari with a convenient bookmarklet.
Pingle Version 1.04 Released and Submitted to App Store
This version was the focus of a lot of rough edge sanding and the offline handling change that Apple requested. Also, I rewrote the photo handling, which was apparently causing a few crashes.
If you’re a beta tester, you can grab the latest build at the URL below. Otherwise, I hope it’ll be available in the app store soon.
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the App Store
Apple sent me a very thoughtful letter last night requesting that I change Pingle to act a little more user-friendly in the absence of a network connection, in accordance with the sacred dictums of the Human Interface Guidelines.
I raged, raged against the dying of the light for a bit then decided they were right. So I’ll be adding that to version 1.04, along with a couple of other tweaks, and send it on its merry way back to Apple by Sunday night. If they keep to the same turnaround time and there aren’t any other major issues, we could be in the app store as early as Friday.
If there’s anything you really need or want to see, write it up over at our Get Satisfaction .
Pingle Beta Version 1.03 Released
Posted by robert in Uncategorized on January 30th, 2009
Version 1.03 of Pingle is now available for beta testers. If you’ve sent me your UDID, you’re a beta tester.
Download it here: Pingle beta version 1.03
The big changes are that Pingle will no longer crash or hang if Ping.FM’s icon hosting is down (like it is at this moment), and that the configured location privacy “fuzz” factor will be applied in all cases. If neither of these issues is affecting you, you may consider this a low priority upgrade.
See the Pingle Release Notes for more information.
If you’d like to test Pingle, please follow the instructions shown on the Private Beta page.
Ping.FM Maintenance May Cause Crashes
Pingle depends on Ping.FM’s image hosting farm to download service icons, and that farm is currently undergoing maintenance. So Pingle may (or may not) be crashing for you — it all depends on whether you’ve already downloaded the icons before.
I’ll get a fix out later today, but with any luck Ping.FM will be back up before then.
Updated Build of Pingle 1.02(c)
Version 1.02c of Pingle is now available for beta testers. If you’ve sent me your UDID as of the end of Jan 28, 2009, you’re a beta tester.
Download it here: Pingle beta version 1.02c
