Installing the Pingle Beta Test
INSTALLATION
This is a beta version, so you cannot install it through the App Store. Instead, you must use iTunes from your Mac or Windows computer.
- Open iTunes. Click on the “Applications” icon in the Library section of iTunes.
- Drag both the .app file and the mobile provisioning file into the iTunes Applications window. With your iPhone connected, make sure this app is set to sync onto your phone.
- Finally, sync your iPhone with iTunes.
INITIAL CONFIGURATION
Recommended Method
When you first launch Pingle, it should ask you for a mobile key. Click on the “http://ping.fm/key” button to log into Ping.FM via your iPhone.
You will need to know the email address and password you used when setting up your Ping.FM account. Enter them here, then click “Login” in the web page. After that, configuration should be automatic. Give it a few seconds to process everything, and then you should end up at the main Post editing screen.
Alternate Method
You can also get your mobile key from your desktop computer by logging into Ping.FM, then opening this URL: http://ping.fm/key
Ignore the long key that it shows you. Instead, look for the Mobile Key section and click “Generate Key”. That link should be replaced with a 4 letter key.
Type that short mobile key into the box that Pingle shows you when you first run it, and click “Check”. It will either tell you an error, such as that your key is invalid, or you will be taken the the main Post editing screen. If you get that far, you have been successful.
Last Resort
If neither of those approaches work, try the instructions in this article.
OTHER SETTINGS
In this current version, settings are changed through the iPhone shared Settings application. To change settings, you must exit Pingle and run that application.
Useful settings:
- Disable/enable location reporting in your pings
- Choose how much “fuzz” to add to your Location for extra privacy
- Choose the default resolution and image quality to use for uploaded images
- Reset auth and prefs for the entire application - use this if crashing or you wish to use a different Ping.FM account
